Founded in 1831, Mount Auburn Cemetery is a National Historic Landmark renowed for its layered landscape reflecting over one hundred and seventy-five years of changing tastes in monument and sculpture, innovations in landscape design, and evolving attitudes towards commemoration. Mount Auburn Cemetery is also home to an internationally recognized horticultural collection and remains an active cemetery.

Mount Auburn is in the midst of an ongoing effort to document the style, material and condition of the great variety of monuments and headstones in our historic landscape. Responsibilities include gathering information on monuments and family burial lots from Cemetery records and archives, entering field observation directly into an existing Microsoft Access database and taking digital images of each monument. The intern will learn to identify different types of stone markers and identify and record signs of deterioration.

Organizational skills and basic computer skills are essential, as is the ability to work outdoors throughout the summer.

Dates: May through August, beginning and ending dates flexible
