Historic Preservation

The city of Boulder is responsible for reviewing all projects concerning individual landmarks and buildings in designated historic districts, as well as demolition review for all buildings over 50 years of age. The city is dedicated to preserving our history, and continually works with members of the community to ensure compatible new growth in our historic districts. The city is also interested in preserving future landmarks, and is currently conducting a survey of Post-World War II residential housing.

The Historic Preservation Program of the city of Boulder is seeking a student for a part-time paid internship position from June 2008 to May 2009. 15-20 hours per week is required during the semester, and up to 40 hours per week required during the summer; $11.00 per hour.

The city would prefer a graduate or undergraduate level student from history, architecture, planning, landscape architecture, or a related field. Graduate students with course work in historic preservation may be particularly qualified. Computer skills are also important.

The internship may entail some of the following:

" research the history of various historic properties to determine eligibility for local landmark designation

" assist with the citys design review process as it relates to historic properties and districts

" assist the citys historic preservation planners in all aspects of program implementation

" gain an understanding of the citys historic preservation program
