National Trust Internship Program

National Trust internships are an ideal way to learn more about preservation or to gain experience in preparation for a career in the field. During the Trust's 10-week summer internship program, one intern will be hired to work in the Mountains/Plains Office in Denver, CO to assist in developing content for our new website www.PreservationNation.org . This years program will run from June 9-August 15, 2008.

Duties

The intern will work on three primary tasks.

" Scan and upload images and create slideshows for the sections of PreservationNation already developed for Public Lands, Rural Heritage and the Mountains/Plains Office. Using the new naming protocol, identify and store images for use on PreservationNation.

" Repurpose existing information that now resides in paper files, computer files, and in slide and digital images into a case study format for posting on our regional office page or in other web locations. The intern will research and write case studies illustrated with photos for projects such as Eisenhower VA in Leavenworth, KS; the McGraw Ranch in Rocky Mountain National Park, CO; and Travelers Rest, and Virginia City in Montana.

" Help to build a section on PreservationNation for the BARN AGAIN! program that helps farmers to save and continue to use historic agricultural buildings. Develop BARN AGAIN! content for PN that includes case studies of past award winners, publications and photos. Provide linkages to Successful Farming, the National Barn Alliance website, and other sites devoted to the preservation of historic barns.

Qualifications

" Strong written and verbal communication skills

" Office skills, including use of MS Office in a workplace environment

" Data entry skills and experience managing data

" Knowledge about CMS websites

" Basic web design and use of Web 2.0 and social networking technology
