HAF was founded in 1974 in response to the construction of the Empire State Plaza and additional threats of demolition. Job Description:

Historic Albany Foundation is seeking a Research Intern to work on the Foundations Historic Plaque Program. HAF plaques are available for purchase for buildings in the City of Albany that retain their original character, are in a good state of preservation and contribute to the historical architectural nature of their neighborhood.

The Research Intern would be responsible for researching building histories, which includes researching the history of the lot and building, previous owners and other pertinent information concerning the origin of the building.

Additionally, the Research Intern will be responsible for the maintenance and indexing of HAFs building files and creating an inventory of existing HAF Plaques in the City of Albany.

The Research Intern may also assist office staff in general research needed for the Foundations events & programs. They would reports to both the Director of Preservation Services and Communications Coordinator.

Job Qualifications:

Undergraduates, graduate students, or recent graduates, with a major/coursework in preservation, history, art history, public history or related fields are encouraged to apply. Strong writing and research skills are necessary. Interest and knowledge of architecture and historic preservation is ideal.

Candidates should be prepared to work a minimum of 10-15 hours a week. It is recommended that Interns be able to receive academic credit as this is an unpaid internship.
