The intern will assist the Northeast Office in the implementation of a unique funding program in the greater Boston area. Duties will include document and presentation preparation, organizing meetings, trainings and events, grants administration, inquiries, and general office administration. Through day to day work, the intern will gain in-depth exposure to a number of topics within historic preservation, as well as experience in the grant making process. The intern in the Northeast Office in Boston will have opportunities to observe preservation in action at the grassroots level, and will have an extensive orientation to the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The intern will be included in office activities, including regular staff meetings and annual events. Depending upon the interns interests, staff will include the intern in key meetings or site visits. Details: Internship Length: October 2008 June 2009 Schedule: 21 hours per week Stipend: $12 Hour Location: Northeast Office, 7 Faneuil Hall Marketplace, 4th Floor, Boston, MA Duties: " Work with historic sites in the greater Boston area to help generate strong grant applications, and understand their projects; " Assist in the grant process by drafting grant documents and letters; " Prepare and maintain project tracking worksheets, documents and materials; " Assist in the preparation of PowerPoint presentations and other meeting and presentation materials; " Assist in coordinating meetings, trainings, tours and press events; " Field general inquiries; " Collect and write stories for posting on the internet; " Create and manage internet-based surveys; " Create and maintain electronic and paper filing systems; and " Additional duties as required by the program. Qualifications: The intern will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to analyze and organize a large volume of information. The intern will have some knowledge of databases, and strong Excel, word processing, and PowerPoint skills. The intern will have solid office skills, including use of MS Office in a workplace environment for functions like mail merge, and creating professional tables, charts and Power Point presentations. A familiarity with Adobe PhotoShop, Microsoft Publisher, and project planning is a plus. Experience in preservation, architecture, communications or construction project management is desired. |
