FRIENDS of the Upper East Side Historic Districts, founded in 1982, is an independent, not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to preserving the architectural legacy, livability, and sense of place of the Upper East Side. In addition to safeguarding the future of the Upper East Side's six historic districts and 126 individual landmarks and being an advocate for sound preservation policies for the city, FRIENDS seeks to maintain and improve zoning laws governing the area's avenues and residential side streets. To achieve these goals, as well as serving as an advocate, FRIENDS seeks to educate and provide and appreciation of the importance of the built environment.

FRIENDS of the Upper East Side Historic Districts is seeking an intern to assist in the daily operation of an independent non-profit membership organization dedicated to preserving the architectural legacy, livability, and sense of place of the Upper East Side and its 126 individual landmarks and six historic districts. The intern will assist the Executive Director with advocacy issues and special projects such as our current work expanding the boundaries of the Upper East Side Historic District. In addition, the candidate will work with community groups and government agencies on preservation issues and projects, appearing before the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, the community board and other public venues. The intern will also help with general office administration and special events.
