The Camden County Historical Society (CCHS) was established in 1899 and is dedicated to the collection, preservation, study and interpretation of life in Camden County and Southern New Jersey from 1660 to the present, in order to serve the educational and civic purposes primarily for the Camden County community and secondarily for the State of New Jersey.

The Historical Society is seeking friendly, detail-oriented, dependable individuals who are able to work independently. CCHS offers interns/volunteers the opportunity to work in a small non-profit institution with a dedicated staff. CCHS volunteers/interns will gain diverse experience in activities typical of libraries, archives, and museums. Activities will cover all aspects of museum and library work including development, research, cataloging, exhibition development, and leading tours. The CCHS staff will work with each intern/volunteer to select tasks and projects that suit individual interests and skills.

Experience with museum and/or library work not necessary, but appreciated. Applicants should have an interest in history or related disciplines. Hours are flexible (Wednesday-Friday 9:30-4:30 and Sunday 12-5), but interns are expected to commit at least 5 hours a week to CCHS. The diverse in-depth experience that interns/volunteers experience working at CCHS make this an ideal opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student in History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Museum Studies, Library Science, Sociology, and related fields. While this position is unpaid, school credit can easily be arranged.

Required Skills:

CCHS will train friendly, detail-oriented, dependable individuals who are able to work independently. Historical background and experience with museums, libraries, and working with the public a plus, but not required.
