Employer
Montana Heritage Commission
Collections Management

With the State of Montana purchase in 1997, the Commission acquired 200 acres and 250 buildings from the Charles Bovey family. These historic buildings tell the remarkable stories of growth in this part of the Rocky Mountains, from an ordinary unpopulated mountain pass, to booming Alder Gulch. Concentrated preservation efforts are underway, and many events take place each season to tell the great stories of discovery, good and evil, and the building of society. The artifact collection numbers nearly 750,000 objects, many which have yet to be accessioned.
