Montana Heritage Commission 2009 Historic Preservation Specialist Internship Position Preservation Specialist The qualified candidate will contribute to the sustained efforts of the Virginia City Preservation Specialist Team, assisting in all aspects of architectural preservation. Project sites include National Register properties in the historic communities of Nevada City and Virginia City, Montana noted as one of the older and larger National Historic Landmark districts in America Applied techniques of historic masonry preservation and re-pointing, plaster and finish material, as well as 19th century wood and log construction technology will be explored. Field documentation and analysis, in addition to experience with historic building materials is highly preferred. Familiarity with Architectural history and interpretation of the American Western vernacular is also strongly desired. Primary duties include research and analysis, and report preparation to include photographic, digital, video and written documentation. Experience with web based applications also strongly desired. Candidates must be presently enrolled in an accredited degree program, noting the disciplines of Historic Preservation, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Archaeology, History, or related programs are highly desired. Candidates should possess good communication skills and basic computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, and CAD highly desirable.
