Planning Intern (Part Time, 10 Weeks @ 20hrs/wk)

The City of Ogdensburg Department of Planning & Development is seeking a part-time intern to assist planning staff with ongoing projects and department responsibilities. This is a cooperative, ten week position with a flexible schedule that pays $3,750.

The DPD Director is willing to tailor an internship to the specific needs and interests of a qualified candidate. Accordingly, the internship could consist of a specific project or a general introduction to working in a planning office. In either case, the intern will gain valuable, professional experience.

Potential projects may include participation in the development and analysis of the Citys annual Citizen Survey, work on the update of the Citys Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan, Downtown Revitalization Plan, Strategic Economic Development Plan, or on the upcoming Community & Economic Development Summit (Fall 2009). The 2009 DPD work plan also includes revising the Citys Capital Improvement Plan and Budget process to include public participation, and revising the Citys website.

A specific project can be developed in any of these program areas, or the intern can work closely with experienced planning staff on the general implementation of planning and redevelopment projects. A general Intern will also work closely with the City Planning Board/Board of Zoning Appeals, Land Use and Code Enforcement staff to review development plans and conduct follow up inspections. The general intern will gain experience and participate in citizen surveys, strategic management, performance evaluation, grant writing, project administration, and public management.
