The Boston Landmarks Commission (BLC) is Bostons municipal historic preservation agency. The BLC functions in conjunction with Bostons local historic district commissions as stewards of the Citys historic buildings, places, and neighborhoods. There are more than 7,700 properties located within nine local historic districts or designated as individual Boston Landmarks. The City's preservation commissions, all headquartered within the Environment Department, provide information and assistance concerning regulatory processes, preservation planning, archaeology, sources for historical information, and technical assistance. |

Description: The Boston Landmarks Commission is seeking an intern to produce a variety of informational documents for the BLC website, in order to broaden the sites scope, update its content, and to increase web-based, preservation-related public resources available to City residents. Documents to be produced will include, but are not limited to, outlines of the application and review process for design review and for demolition delay, commission procedures, architectural guidelines, available research materials, topical glossaries and fact sheets, descriptions of prevalent building types and styles, preservation resources for property owners, and frequently asked questions. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have strong interest in and knowledge of Bostons architectural history, have relevant preservation experience, and be able to work independently. Because the Citys Management & Information Services Department will be responsible for the ultimate redesign of the website, web design experience is not required. Hours and compensation: 20 hours per week, for 10 weeks. The time period for the internship is loosely defined as summer (May to September). A stipend may be available, at a rate of $12-15 per hour. |
