The Search Committee seeks applicants for the position of State Historic Preservation Officer and Director of the Historic Preservation Division - NM Department of Cultural Affairs

Qualifications

Statutory qualifications:

* Graduate degree in history, archaeology, anthropology, architecture, or historic preservation.

* Five years professional experience

* Demonstrated contribution to scholarship in the applicants chosen field

The successful candidate will exhibit the following characteristics:

* Strong leadership skills needed as Division Director and as leader of historic preservation in New Mexico

* Ability to understand and coordinate the various preservation professions

* Administrative skills and experience to support work as Division Director

* Excellent mediation skills

* Understanding of the breadth and potential of the position to further the goals of heritage preservation statewide

* Ability to further the goals of historic preservation statewide

* Political acumen

* Knowledge of preservation law at local, state and national levels

* Skills in working with diverse cultural groups and interest groups

* An understanding of the cultural heritage of the southwest
