Project: Work with a statewide historic preservation organization on rural resource surveys of historic farming and ranching resources on the Eastern Plains of Colorado. The intern will assist with research, field survey, and the completion of survey forms. Possible intern projects include conducting general historical research on the development of agriculture in eastern Colorado, researching specific historic properties, traveling to eastern Colorado to assist with the recordation of historic resources, and writing architectural descriptions for surveyed resources. Time Frame: The project will require 10 weeks to complete. You may select the 10 week period between May 15th and August 31st which best fits your summer schedule. Qualifications: We are seeking a historic preservation/public history graduate student. A successful candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills, be organized and detail-oriented, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Experience with archival research is a plus. Prefer experience with architectural surveys and applying National Register of Historic Places criteria. An interest in rural preservation as well as farming and ranching resources is essential. Benefits: Stipend of $4,000. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to work with a statewide preservation organization and gain experience with conducting large-scale historic resources surveys. Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the intern. However, Colorado Preservation, Inc. will assist with locating suitable accommodations. |
