The Genesee/Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council (G/FLRPC) serves a nine county region in central-western New York State. G/FLRPC's mission is to identify, define, and inform its member counties of issues and opportunities critical to the physical, economic, and social health of the region. G/FLRPC provides forums for discussion, debate, and consensus building, and develops and implements a focused action plan with clearly defined outcomes, which include programs, personnel, and funding. G/FLRPC staff foster that mission with a process that is built on constant and consistent improvement, customer service and performance, change, communication, partnerships, staff involvement and professional growth, and quality programs and projects that support our region. The ideal candidate should possess those qualities along with good oral, written, computer, project, organization, coordination, research, and analysis skills.

G/FLRPC has a paid summer internship (May 2008 - August 2008) available for a

student interested in working in a professional environment and assisting in

cultural resources survey and documentation. The survey will thematically identify,

assess, and recognize historic properties in the Genesee-Finger Lakes Region as they

relate to transportation, including train stations, bridges, tunnels, trolley cars,

highways, etc. A reconnaissance level survey will be conducted, consisting of a

description of general character, background documentary research, and photographic

documentation. The internship will entail fieldwork (must have personal vehicle),

research and data analysis, report writing, and other project support tasks.

The ideal candidate should possess good written, computer, and research skills and

be self-motivated and organized. Applicants pursuing an advanced degree in historic

preservation planning, historic architecture, landscape or art history or any other

related discipline is preferred.
