Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, the countrys largest statewide historic preservation non-profit organization, offers full-time summer internship opportunities for field surveyors in Parke, Tipton, and Union counties for a period of 12-16 weeks beginning in May 2008.

QUALIFICATIONS

Surveyors should have a working knowledge of 19th and 20th century architectural styles, with an emphasis on vernacular building types. Familiarity with different types of farm buildings and bridges is also important. The surveyor must have a reliable vehicle and be familiar with digital photography. Photography experience is helpful. Graduate students in historic preservation or a related field preferred.

PAY

The survey project begins officially on May 1, 2008 and is expected to end in August. Dates are somewhat flexible, but surveyors are expected to complete the project before returning to school or another job. Surveyors are paid an hourly rate of $9.50, and are reimbursed for mileage at $.40 per mile within the surveyed counties. Photo printing and paper are supplied. Surveyors are responsible for their own food and lodging, though assistance in finding housing is available.
