South End Historical Society

The South End Historical Society (SEHS) is a group of interested citizens that recognizes the unique architectural and cultural history of the South End of Boston. Through the efforts of the society, the South End has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the largest Victorian brick rowhouse district in the United States. The SEHS has worked continuously to retain the Victorian integrity of the South End and reintroduce the greater Boston area to the South End with its annual House Tour as well as numerous historical programs and events. The SEHS also encourages research, conservation, and education to protect and promote interest in our local historic buildings, monuments, and sites. The South End Historical Society is one of the primary contributors to the preservation of the South End and a supporter of its ongoing revitalization.

Boston's South End Historical Society (SEHS) is looking for a qualified candidate to serve as Executive Director, responsible for all administrative work of the Society. The new director will be responsible for a one-person office, and will assume a wide range of duties related to programs, collections and office support work. The director supports the Board of Directors with fundraising events and campaigns. Candidates must be highly motivated and look forward to the opportunity to grow with a local historical group working to better serve the South End community.

Qualifications: Degree in history required; degrees in museum administration or collections, or library sciences would be helpful. Must be comfortable with all aspects of office technology including Microsoft Office and Quickbooks; experience with Dreamweaver and working knowledge of collections management (including PastPerfect) is preferred. Some evenings and weekends required. Position is full-time, salary is negotiable.
