* Part-time position: 30 hrs/wk, flexible schedule. Requires evening and weekend hours. * Annual Salary: $25,000 * Start date: Prior to September 25, 2009 * Office location: The Lewes Historical Society in Lewes, Delaware DUTIES: 1. Provide guidance to residents and communities in Southern Delaware through the delivery of field services and technical assistance on a variety of subjects including preservation techniques and approaches, fundraising, organizational development, capacity building, community relations and politics, community development, conservation issues, public relations, and the availability of preservation resources. This will be accomplished through both timely, hands-on preservation assistance and new and enhanced programming such as e-communication, workshops, and resource materials. 2. Represent Preservation Delaware, Inc. (PDI) and the National Trust for Historic Preservation (National Trust) to communities throughout Southern Delaware and make the assistance available from both organizations to those communities, residents and organizations whenever appropriate. 3. Develop a network of preservation supporters throughout Southern Delaware who are willing and able to assist one another with preservation knowledge and experience, and serve as a link between such persons to those needing their assistance through individualized communication, new e-communication networks, workshops and conferences. 4. Participate in regular meetings of PDI. Assist with the PDI's communication and fundraising efforts that relate to field service. Identify opportunities for PDI program assistance, workshops, advocacy support, etc. 5. Participate in periodic staff meetings of National Trusts Northeast Regional and Northeast Field Offices, as well as national and regional National Trust meetings. Identify and cultivate nominations for National Preservation Honor Awards, the National Trust's annual list of Eleven Most Endangered Historic Places, and the National Trust's grant programs. 6. Assist with program evaluation and provide regular reports to PDI and the National Trust for newsletters and other communications. 7. Work actively to build constituent and financial support for PDI and the National Trust including identifying and soliciting individuals, organizations, and foundations for partial financial support of the field services program. QUALIFICATIONS: Strong leadership, results-oriented, written and verbal communications skills. Ability to work collegially with a wide variety of interests, work with minimal supervision, handle many tasks and responsibilities. Substantial experience in community organizing, preservation, fundraising, law, planning, development, government, and/or advocacy. Must have willingness to travel. Undergraduate degree in preservation or related field preferred. Masters degree desirable. |
