Responsibilities: At the direction and supervision of the Historic Resources Administrator, the intern will assist with:

? Certificate of Appropriateness and Downtown Design Review applications

? Monthly Historic Resource Commission meetings

? GIS map updates for location of national, state and Lawrence Register of Historic Places

? Grant project activities

? Updating historic resources data base information

? Providing requested information to the general public

NOTE: This project is funded in part with Federal funds from the National Park Service, a division of the United States Department of the Interior, and administered by the Kansas State Historical Society. Qualifications: Although no prior combination of experience and training is required, applicants should currently be enrolled in a master degree program or have completed masters degree within the last six months in the field of historic preservation, design, architecture, urban planning, public history, law or public administration. Preference will be given to those students who have completed coursework or are currently enrolled in preservation related coursework. Candidates should be proficient in the use of standard office equipment, and the Microsoft Office suite including Power Point. Familiarity with GIS technologies and ability to read construction documents is helpful. The ideal candidate will also possess the ability to communicate effectively, and will utilize the appropriate telephone etiquette. Must successfully pass criminal background check. A valid drivers license and ability to attend Historic Resources Commission meetings is required.

Hours: Historic Resources Commission meetings are currently scheduled for the 3rd Thursday evening of each month. Remainder of the interns schedule is typically within normal business hours as prearranged with the supervisor and will consist of approximately 20 to 30 hours weekly.
