VHB's Bedford, NH office is seeking a Preservation Planner. Qualified candidates will have a minimum of BS/BA in Preservation Studies and 3-7 years of experience, or MS/MA in related field and 2-5 years of cultural resources experience; working knowledge of the National Register criteria, Section 106 regulations; excellent writing and communication skills and research capabilities. Experience with New Hampshire DHR is required.

Responsibilities include: Conducting and managing cultural resource identification and evaluation surveys for public and private sector clients. Task manage and provide technical fulfillment on cultural resource components of environmental and planning-related documents for transportation and land development projects. Likely tasks will include identification and evaluation of historic properties, assessment of project-related impacts, and technical writing. Coordinate Section 106 and other applicable federal, state, and local historic preservation reviews for transportation and land development projects, including identification and evaluation of historic properties; assessment of project-related impacts; and preparation of process documentation. Assist Cultural Resources Group Leader in consultation and negotiation with SHPOs, government officials, and consulting parties. Support of the Land Development, Planning, Transportation Group and other regional offices with historic preservation planning services. Support the Oil and Hazardous Materials (OHM) Group with site history research and permitting services. Assist Cultural Resources group leader in scoping, managing, and tracking projects and proposals and in marketing group services within and outside VHB.
