The Master of Science in Historic Preservation Program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago seeks a full-time, tenured or tenure-track faculty member to teach in one of the nation's leading Master of Science in Historic Preservation degree programs. The program offers courses in the disciplinary areas of architectural design, history, planning and materials conservation. Rank and salary commensurate with experience, teaching, and current professional status. Responsibilities: Teaching requirements include materials conservation, architectural documentation and/or design, and the research and writing of landmark nominations. Maintain an active practice in architecture, preservation and preservation education. Participate in the development of the department and in faculty governance of the School. Thesis and internship advising, promoting the program nationally. The program has 30-40 graduate students, offers 20 courses each academic year, an annual study trip, two full-time faculty, and 14 part-time faculty who are practicing professionals in the field. Qualifications: The successful applicant is an architect with practical experience in historic preservation projects, a keen understanding of materials conservation and a willingness to perform administrative duties and provide vision and direction as the departmental director on a rotating basis. A degree in architecture and teaching experience is expected and a degree in historic preservation is preferred. |
