TEACHING OPPORTUNITY The Department of History at the University of California, Riverside, invites applications for a one-quarter, part-time Visiting Assistant Professor in Public History for the Winter Quarter (January-March) of the 2009-2010 academic year. Requirements include the Ph.D., evidence of experience within the field of Public History and successful teaching experience. The position involves teaching a four unit, ten-week graduate level course in "Conservation Science and Historical Objects" for M.A. and Ph.D. students during the Winter Quarter. The salary will be approximately $6,000 for the quarter. The course will meet once a week for three hours each, although off-campus visits and/or fieldwork are possible. The Conservation Science course aims to introduce students to some of the principles and practices of analyzing, preserving, conserving, and managing the care and collection of any or all types of material and visual artifacts. It may also include issues related to digitization or preserving the built and natural landscape.
