Under the direction of the Collections Assistant, the Temporary Museum Assistant will assist with the annual preventive conservation procedures and inventory review of the historic house exhibit rooms, in accordance with the Tudor Place Housekeeping Schedule. All collections care procedures, including cleaning, will utilize methods outlined in the Tudor Place Housekeeping Manual. This is a temporary full-time position to be undertaken during January 2010, when the house is closed to the public.
Responsibilities:
1. Assists with the annual preventive conservation procedures and inventory review of the historic house exhibit rooms, in accordance with the Tudor Place Housekeeping Schedule. All collections care procedures, including cleaning, will utilize methods outlined in the Tudor Place Housekeeping Manual.
2. Assists with the annual inventory review of the historic house exhibit rooms.
3. Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience and educational requirements:
1. Masters degree (or work towards) in museum studies with a concentration in collections management.
2. One-year experience with museums or historic sites.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
1. Knowledge of museum collections management methods.
2. Excellent object handling skills.
3. Must be able to lift 25lbs.
4. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
5. Excellent organizational skills.
6. Ability to maintain effective working relationships and to work well with others in a team environment.
7. Computer literacy including database applications.
