Alexander Archaeological Consultants, Inc. a Chattanooga based cultural resources firm in business for more than 20 years, seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Archaeologist. Responsibilities for this position will include the preparation of research designs, the supervision of field crews in a variety of environments, the recording of prehistoric and historic sites, the excavation of prehistoric and historic sites, the analysis of survey and/or excavation data, the preparation of technical reports. Specialized skills in Total Station Mapping, Handheld GPS devices, Microsoft Word, and Wordperfect are strongly desired.

Most projects are located in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia, others projects are located in adjacent southeastern states. The position will require frequent contact with a variety of clients and governmental agencies. The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

" Completion of a Master's Degree in Anthropology or closely related field

" At least two years of archaeological field experience at supervisory level; experience in the Southeastern United States or adjacent states is preferred

" Willingness to carry out both historic and prehistoric archaeological work

" Good written and verbal skills as well as analytical abilities

" Demonstrated ability to work individually as well as part of a team

" Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines

" Willingness to learn, work well with others, and take direction

The generous benefit package includes; 10 paid holidays, health insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, paid sick leave, and paid vacation time (after a probationary period). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with archaeologists, historians, architectural historians and managers and be exposed to ideas, challenges and opportunities not often found in larger, corporate structured firms. This is a full-time salary position, not an individual project assignment. The successful applicant must be willing to relocate to the Chattanooga area and will be expected to travel for project assignments. Compensation to be negotiated and will be commensurate with experience.
