The Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourisms Internship Program for historic preservation provides eligible college students with meaningful opportunities to apply and test their skills and knowledge in the world of work. The program provides on-the-job training in historic preservation as part of CCTs State Historic Preservation Office and introduces students to careers in public service. The program: Augments academic learning through practical application in the workplaceAllows students to explore professional options in their chosen fieldsFacilitates the successful transition from college to workHelps develop a pipeline of trained workforce in the statePromotes the recruitment and retention of skilled talent in Connecticut
Three competitive internships are available in each of the fall, spring, and summer terms: National and State Registers of Historic Places - learn about CCTs designation of historic buildings, sites, districts and structuresHistoric Resources Inventory and Minority/Womens History - learn about CCTs thematic and townSurveys of historic buildings and the Connecticut Freedom Trail, Washington-Rochambeau Heritage Trail, and sites associated with minority and womens historyOrganizational and Municipal Historic Preservation Programs - learn about CCTs historic preservation programs for non-profit organizations, Certified Local Governments, and local historic district commissionInterns are supervised by CCTs professional staff. For academic credit, interns must comply with their schools requirements and be supervised by a faculty member working closely with CCT staff. DURATION: Internships are available part-time (a minimum of 4 hours per week for 10-12 weeks) and full time (up to 8 weeks @ 40 hours for a total of 320 hours).
STIPEND: Internships are unpaid.
ELIGIBILITY: Undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or community college program leading to a degree may apply. Although students from all disciplines are considered, preference is given to upperclassmen (juniors and seniors) and graduate students whose interests and studies offer some preparation for the training they will undergo at the Commission.
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have strong computer and communication skills, and be able to work independently. |
