Founded in 1823, the New Hampshire Historical Society is the fifth-oldest historical society in the nation and is the independent nonprofit that saves, preserves, and shares New Hampshire history. The Society is the only historical society in New Hampshire that serves the entire state. It is the largest historical society in the state in terms of budget, staff and membership. It has the largest collection in terms of quantity of artifacts and archives of any collections-holding institution in the state. It also has the largest membership of any of the states non-media cultural organizations.

Duties

We seek an energetic leader with an enthusiasm for history, an excellent business sense and the ability to successfully execute the Societys business plan. This person must be a prudent decision-maker and a pragmatic manager firmly committed to running a sound financial ship. He or she will have a solid understanding of finance and be able to show evidence of effective staff management and organizational skills in such areas as goal-setting, problem-solving and collaborating. We seek a creative thinker who understands the future of the Society must encompass a Web-based, virtual museum and library. The person must be versed in technology and have experience in applying technology into an organizational environment.

Qualifications

The qualified candidate will be an excellent communicator, both internally with staff and trustees and externally in the community. He or she must reach out to the community to build long-term relationships and broaden the base of financial support for the Societys current operations and future initiatives. The candidate needs to understand and embrace resource development in order to be an effective fundraiser. This community outreach will also foster collaboration and partnerships with people and organizations to help further the Societys mission and improve its collections.
