DVPC’s technical assistance program has three components: 1) vacant property planning, 2) general technical assistance, and 3) the Community and
Property Preservation (CAPP) mini?grant program. The technical assistance program aims to empower
communities to mitigate the negative impact of vacant property on the surrounding community and
turn vacant properties into neighborhood assets.
Responsibilities include:
? Managing and fulfilling general technical assistance requests including but not limited to presenting
at community meetings, generating vacant property maps, and working with communities to
develop neighborhood specific vacant property strategies;
? Helping prepare vacant property plans, technical reports and educational publications;
? Exploring land use changes in multiple arenas, specifically with regard to vacant land (community
meetings, meetings with partners and funders, etc.);
? Executing strategies to publicize technical assistance offerings to potential client organizations in
order to expand current program;
? Developing supplemental resources for technical assistance requests to increase impact of technical
assistance and capacity of client organizations;
? Helping the Technical Director create systems to organize and manage technical assistance client
information (i.e., databases, maps, reports, etc);
Skill Requirements and Preferred Qualifications
? Masters of Urban Planning or MA in a related discipline;
? GIS skills required and Adobe Creative Suite skills strongly preferred;
? Land use planning experience required, direct experience with vacant property systems and
alternative land uses preferred;
? Knowledge of real estate development process preferred;
? Experience with community development groups, grassroots organizations and/or the nonprofit
sector;
? Superior written and oral communication skills and a desire to advocate for low income
communities affected by vacant properties;
