ARCHITECTURAL HISTORIAN

The Louis Berger Group, Inc., (Berger), solicits applications for the position of Architectural Historian in our Washington, D.C., office.

We seek highly motivated, talented applicants to pursue quality historical architectural research in a cultural resource management context. Responsibilities will include historical research, architectural field survey, National Register evaluations, effects assessments pursuant to 36 CFR 800, HABS/HAER-level documentation, and report writing.

A Master’s degree in Architectural History, History, Historic Preservation, or related field plus excellent research and writing skills are required. Candidates must have at least five years of professional experience in field survey and National Register evaluation of architectural resources, preferably in the context of Section 106 compliance. Experience with engineering/industrial/military resources and cultural landscapes is desirable.

The preferred candidate will have working familiarity with Federal laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines governing historic preservation and cultural resource management. The ability to communicate directly with a variety of clients in the public and private sector is necessary as is the ability to work both on own initiative and as part of a team with other professionals within the company. Applicants must have demonstrated ability to meet budget and schedule requirements.
