Historic Beaufort Foundation (HBF) is seeking an Executive Director to lead a 43-year-old preservation organization located in the historic South Carolina Lowcountry. Containing a 304-acre National Historic Landmark District, Beaufort is the second oldest city in South Carolina and is home to 475 contributing historic structures. Chartered as a 501(c)3, HBF is a Local Partner of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and is actively involved in planning for the Tricentennial celebration of Beaufort's founding in 1711. With a membership of almost 1,000, HBF owns the ca. 1804 John Mark Verdier House, the only historic house in Beaufort open to the public, as well as two adjacent commercial buildings. HBF maintains proprietary interest in two historic residences, holds nearly thirty historic easements and covenants and maintains a Revolving Fund. Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Be the "face forward" for historic preservation in Beaufort County, tactfully interfacing with and educating multiple constituencies, including city/county officials and policy makers as well as a large number of diverse preservation-minded volunteers/members/residents. 2. Provide relevant guidance to the City of Beaufort's Historic District Review Board; perform research on buildings and properties within and outside the Landmark District. 3. Manage and develop a full and part-time staff of six (to include supervision of interpretive display and design.) 4. Plan and manage an annual operating budget of more than $350,000. 5. Report to a volunteer Board of Trustees. Qualifications: A. A vision and enthusiasm for historic preservation with ability to articulate ideals. B. Graduate degree in preservation or qualifying practical experience. C. Experience with non-profit board governance, fundraising, grant writing, event marketing, Revolving Fund management, membership recruitment and retention. D. Ability to build and manage a budget. E. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. F. Team leader, team builder, team player |
