Belmont Technical College is conducting a nationwide search for a full-time faculty position in its award winning Building Preservation and Restoration Technology Department (BPR). Created in 1989, the BPR program has served as a national model for traditional trade’s education, drawing students from across the United States. A Bachelors degree in Historic Preservation, Architecture, Building Construction, Fine Arts or a related field is required; a Masters degree is preferred. The successful candidate will have considerable experience working in historic preservation in a hands-on setting and be able to teach both in a lecture format to large groups as well as work one-on-one with students in the department’s workshops. Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience. Candidates invited for an interview will be required to make a presentation in a classroom setting on some aspect of their work. The position will require the successful candidate to teach a full academic load (21 contact hours/quarter) in Fall, Winter and Spring quarters and oversee the department student organization along with other duties assigned. The general responsibilities for faculty members in this area are: developing curriculum and course syllabi, classroom and lab instruction, developing evaluation methods, participating in the assessment of student learning, providing student performance feedback, counseling students for academic success, serving within the college governance system, and participating in the continuous quality improvement process of the college. Review of applications will begin on May 17, 2010, and will continue until the position is filled. The expected start date is September 1, 2010. Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials; the College offers an excellent fringe benefit package. |
