Preservation Trust of Spartanburg, a nonprofit historic preservation organization in Spartanburg SC, is seeking an experienced professional for the position of executive director (ED). The mission of the Preservation Trust of Spartanburg is to preserve historic structures in Spartanburg through rehabilitation, education and advocacy. The ED must have proven success and expertise in construction management, communications, and executive non-profit management. The ED will work closely with the Board of Directors to lead this active organization in its mission to restore and protect historic structures within the city of Spartanburg. The ED will report to and interact with the Chairman and the Board of Directors. The ED must be a strong team player and be able to share leadership roles. The ED will have three (3) primary areas of focus and expertise:
Operations/FinancialManagement: TheEDwillsupervisestaff,operations,andfinancial administration. The ED will manage expenses and income for the Trust; create monthly reports for Trust board, manage and track cash flow, work up financial feasibility studies for prospective projects, and track and manage grant funds. The ED must be proficient in QuickBooks. The ED must possess a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of professional and managerial non-profit, or comparable executive management experience. He or she will have experience working successfully with Boards.
Project Management: The ED will purchase, coordinate and manage rehabilitation projects. These responsibilities include:
• Purchase negotiations
• Development of work scopes
• Track and adhere to project budgets during construction
• Creation of project timelines and oversee adherence to timelines during construction
• Assist in the hiring of contractors
• Create and implement change orders
• Review and approve construction invoices/draw requests
• Oversee quality control and complete inspections of work completed to date
• Visit each construction site on a regular basis; Attend design and construction on-site and off-
site meetings as required
Mission Delivery: The ED of the organization must have passion for historic preservation. He or she must be an effective communicator, both verbal and written, who has experience with the press, media, and marketing; must be flexible, and innovative.
Salary and Benefits: Salary is comparable to other non-profit organizations of similar size and commensurate with experience. This is a full-time position.
