We are advertising a permanent, fulltime benefit-eligible position for an Historic Preservation Specialist II (Special Projects Historian/Survey Coordinator) on the State Notice of Vacancy starting this evening, July 7, 2010, and closing at 5:00 p.m. on July 17, 2010. This is an unclassified special projects position that serves as an Historic Preservation Specialist II in the Cultural Resources Division at the Kansas Historical Society. The primary duties of this position for the next two years will be to prepare an amendment to the existing Historic Resources of the Santa Fe Trail 1821 Multiple Property Documentation Form (MPDF) and prepare 30 individual National Register nominations under the amended MPDF for trail segments and their associated resources. These trail segments are located primarily in Kansas, but nominations may also be made for trail segments in other states with Santa Fe Trail resources. Extensive travel is required. This position also serves as Survey Coordinator for the agency and works with consultants and constituents who are conducting or planning local historic resources surveys. The Survey Coordinator maintains and oversees updates to the online survey database in coordination with the State of Kansas Data Access and Support Center (DASC). Must have strong computer skills and a general knowledge of database structure and GIS. Please see jobs.ks.gov, Requisition #166247, for complete position qualifications. Briefly stated, the successful applicant will meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards in the area of History, Architectural History or Preservation Planning and hold either a bachelor's degree or higher and have a minimum of two (2) years full-time relevant professional experience.
