The City of Columbus seeks a full-time Assistant Historic Preservation Officer in the Planning Division/HPO to provide staff support to architectural review commissions and assist in the planning, development and coordination of preservation projects. This is the first of a couple of positions that will be posted in early 2011.

Incorporating nationally recognized neighborhoods, such as German Village and the Short North, the city’s 18 historic districts and 59 individually listed properties include over 7,000 individual tax parcels. Five separate commissions regulate and ensure best preservation practices in the districts.

Staff is responsible for working directly with applicants seeking approval for exterior work to properties, new construction and graphics in districts, managing commission agendas, researching individual properties and districts, as well as participating in development of policy and code-based preservation solutions.

Minimum qualifications are a bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of experience (a master’s degree may be counted towards one year of experience).
