POSITION: Cultural Resources GIS Analyst position (Research Associate II Special) available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands, to be assigned at Fort Riley, Kansas. Position is contingent on the availability of funding to provide technical support for the U.S. Army installation’s cultural resources management program. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS degree in anthropology/archaeology. At least 3 years post-graduation work experience in contract archeology or cultural resources management. Demonstrated competency in Geographic Information Systems including ArcGIS software and related ESRI products, as well as Global Positioning System (GPS) technology (including Trimble systems). Previous work experience in a highly structured, hierarchical workplace with a well-defined chain-of-command. Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Driver’s License. CSU conducts a background check on all final candidates. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS IN ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: Demonstrated knowledge of cultural resource management policy and historic preservation law. Working knowledge of ArcGIS and related ESRI products. Sound GIS dataset management skills. Experience developing and managing complex cultural resources databases (e.g., archaeological sites, accessions, land acquisitions, etc.) appropriate for the scale of a large land-holding agency. M.A. degree in anthropology, archaeology, or related discipline, or coursework towards the M.A. degree. Excellent written and oral communication skills. RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and manage the GIS database for the Fort Riley Cultural Resources Program. Conduct GPS locational fieldwork at installation archaeological sites. Provide recommendations for cultural resource program requirement annual submissions. Brief military and civilian personnel on Cultural Resource Management issues as they pertain to training/construction activities on the installation. Coordinate with Kansas State Historic Preservation Office, Public Affairs, Staff Judge Advocate, and other installation agencies, to inform these offices of cultural resource compliance requirements.
