We are seeking Cultural Resource Technicians with previous excavation experience to perform data recovery fieldwork, laboratory and office tasks with other crew members under the supervision of a Cultural Resources Specialist or Project Manager. Qualified individuals must be available to work full-time hours beginning early March through late July.
Job duties include:
Perform archaeological testing and excavation
Identify artifacts during survey and excavation and basic documentation
Conduct site documentation
Take appropriate site and artifact photographs
Collect GPS data
Care and tracking of equipment and vehicles assigned
Track personal progress and daily paperwork, ensuring handwriting is legible
Input data into databases
Assist in report writing and completion of site forms
Clean, organize, and label artifacts in the laboratory
Comply with ALL SWCA health and safety procedures
Complying with SWCA company procedures
Complete other tasks as assigned
Skills Requirements:
B.A. or B.S in Archaeology or Anthropology with field school completed, or field school with sufficient course work.
Ability to work long hours in extreme weather conditions and terrain
Ability to work as a member of a team and follow instructions from supervisors with a positive attitude
Ability to distinguish artifacts from non-artifacts, historic from modern debris, etc.
Ability to identify specific artifact types (point types, can types, etc.)
Navigate with compass and topographic maps and manually determine slope
Accurately record data in the field with assistance from other employees
Flexibility and willingness to learn company procedures and techniques
Desire to excel and take pride in work well done
Must read through any written documents before passing onto a supervisor
Asks questions and seek clarification when necessary
