The Preservation Society of Charleston is seeking a Diversity Programs Intern who will work thirty hours per week from May 16, 2011 through August 19, 2011 to lay the groundwork for a Charleston African-American Preservation Alliance. The internship is funded in part by a grant from the Terence L. Mills Preservation Fund for North and South Carolina of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The intern will work under the direction of the Executive Director and will meet with African-American community leaders, historians and preservationists, organize a workshop and collaboratively develop a list of preservation priorities that address historic resources associated with African-American history in Charleston.

The intern should be a graduate or undergraduate student in historic preservation, history or a related field of interest with a demonstrated interest in African-American historic preservation issues. Candidates should have strong interpersonal and writing skills, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
