Responsibilities: Internship will involve assisting easement program staff with the monitoring of properties currently under preservation easement to the Department of Historic Resources (DHR).
The core responsibilities of this position include:
• Site visits to easement properties throughout the state
• Completion of site visit inspection reports
• Photo documentation of properties visited
The Easement Intern works closely with other easement staff to ensure the coordinated and consistent oversight of easement properties. This position monitors easement properties by documenting current conditions, ownership, and maintenance issues, etc. and involves direct contact and interaction with property owners as well as other easement staff. Position requires extensive travel throughout Virginia, photographic documentation, occasional measured drawing, research as appropriate, and written correspondence.
Qualifications: Knowledge of architectural history, principles and practices; preservation treatment, protection methods, techniques, issues, etc. Ability to plan work, meet deadlines and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Knowledge of DHR’s Data Sharing System (DSS) and GIS desirable.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in architecture, historic preservation, architectural history or related field. Graduate study preferred.
Hourly compensation and dates of employment are negotiable; ideally internship would be ten weeks.
