Possible projects could include

research and development of summer walking tours and completion of architectural inventory forms for each property researched

writing text for a guidebook to historic properties

development of preservation-related educational tools

conduct a reconnaissance survey and develop survey report

research and complete National or State Register preliminary evaluation form

assistance with local register nominations and design review

records management of historic preservation records

Other projects may be developed based on the needs of the students and City of Greeley. The intern would be expected to do a small amount of clerical work, including filing and possibly drafting letters to property owners, as requested. A more general internship with some experience in several of these areas is also possible. A Historic Preservation Internship could be combined with an internship with other areas of the Community Development Department, including Planning, Neighborhood Resources, Code Enforcement, Building Inspection and/or Greeley Urban Renewal Authority. Training will occur at the beginning of the internship and throughout the internship, depending on the project and student needs.

The City of Greeley Historic Preservation Office, housed in the Community Development Department/Planning Division, works with the public to further the preservation of historic resources through administration of the Greeley Historic Register, assisting property owners with National and/or State Register nominations, administration of incentives such as State Tax Credits and the Low Interest Loan Program, surveying historic areas to identify resources, public education about preservation, and provide staff assistance to the Greeley Historic Preservation Commission.

Necessary experience/skills: Should be able to do thorough primary and secondary source research and communicate findings coherently in writing; Should have good people skills.
