Senior Archaeologist

Coastal Carolina Research (CCR), a subsidiary of Commonwealth Cultural Resources Group, Inc., has an immediate opening for a Senior Archaeologist based in our office in historic Tarboro, NC. The position requires a Ph.D. or M.A./M.S. in anthropology/archaeology, an analytical specialization in precontact or historic archaeology of the Southeastern or Mid-Atlantic regions, and at least five years of cultural resources management experience at the field director level or higher. The successful applicant will conduct or coordinate Phase I archaeological surveys, Phase II evaluations, and Phase III data recovery projects as Archaeologist and/or Principal Investigator under the general direction of the Regional Director/Project Manager. The position will also entail analysis of results, archival research, evaluation of sites including development of research designs for significant resources, and preparation of detailed reports meeting all applicable company and agency standards and guidelines. The Senior Archaeologist will also contribute to marketing through assistance with proposal development and active participation in professional circles. Additional general requirements of the position include:

Excellent organizational skills for tracking field data and progress

Flexibility in terms of working independently as well as in a team structure

Initiative in supervising and motivating staff to meet project goals

Willingness to travel as necessary for project assignments

Ability to work in a variety of conditions with occasional long hours, rugged terrain, and inclement weather

Excellent writing skills and ability to produce reports in a timely manner

Familiarity with Section 106 of the NHPA and NEPA regulations

This is a full-time position with permanent status after a six-month probation; salary range for this position is competitive and dependent on experience with opportunities for advancement and higher salary. Archaeologists in the CCR office typically work on a variety of projects covering the Coastal, Piedmont, Blue Ridge, and Mountain regions and often work closely with architectural historians in completing overall Section 106 documentation for compliance projects. CCR staff are afforded opportunities for participation in professional conferences and meetings through policy supporting time and travel costs.
