The Memphis Regional Design Center (MRDC) is seeking applicants for a Director who will also fill a faculty position with a joint appointment in the Department of Architecture and the Graduate Program in City and Regional Planning commencing in the Fall 2011 semester at the University of Memphis. This new MRDC director will be expected to teach graduate and upper-level undergraduate design / planning studios and related seminar courses and will also coordinate MRDC activities with the various University academic units. Approximately 70% of each week will be spent in teaching related activities with 30% spent coordinating the other activities of the MRDC. This position will report to the Board of Directors at the MRDC but will be a part of the ongoing programs at the University of Memphis. The ideal candidate for this position should have a strong commitment to teaching with extensive experience in the classroom as well as the ability to effect solutions to Urban Planning challenges. In addition, a record of professional research and/or practice relevant to architecture, urban design, city planning, and related areas is required. Courses taught are expected to include students in architecture, city planning, real estate development, and anthropology, among others. Minimum educational qualifications include a Master of Architecture degree or a Masters degree in City Planning, or a professional undergraduate degree in architecture and a Masters or Doctoral degree in a related field. Registration as an architect in the USA with substantial professional practice experience may be substituted for the graduate degree. Additional requirements include relevant teaching experience at the graduate and undergraduate level. Applicants must submit a letter of intent describing their interests in the position, a statement describing past teaching history, salary requirements, a curriculum vitae, a portfolio, and contact information (including e-mail addresses) of three references.
