The Knoxville-Knox County Metropolitan Planning Commission is seeking qualified applicants for the position of historic preservation planner. This is a mid to high level position, with a broad range of responsibilities, including, but not limited to, providing primary staff support to the community’s two historic zoning commissions. Tasks will include: Conducting historic surveys and performing historic research; assisting the State Historic Preservation Office in identifying, evaluating and treating National Register eligible and listed properties under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act; maintaining a database for properties subject to Section 106 review (National Historic Preservation Act); researching and preparing designation reports and design guidelines for locally designated properties; researching and preparing National Register nominations; advising in the preparation of preservation tax incentive applications; staffing the Knoxville Historic Zoning Commission and the Knox County Historic Zoning Commission; maintaining records for Certified Local Government designation; working cooperatively with local code enforcement officials and the State Historic Preservation Office; overseeing the application process for Certificates of Appropriateness for locally designated properties; maintaining the listings of locally designated properties in the city and county; preparing architectural descriptions and photography for designated buildings; acting as liaison for historic neighborhoods; and provide information to elected and appointed officials of local and state government In addition, the candidate should posses the following: Proficiency in word processing; Working knowledge of zoning, subdivision regulations, Federal regulations, and the comprehensive planning process; Strong research, writing and communications skills; Strong public speaking and meeting facilitation skills; Strong organization skills and ability to work effectively with community groups and local government; Ability to work effectively with colleagues in planning and project implementation; and Thorough knowledge of state and federal historic preservation requirements, standards, and programs. |
