DESCRIPTION: Under limited supervision of the associate director for the division, coordinates the National Register of Historic Places and Certified Local Government programs. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Oversees National Register program. Writes nominations and consults on formal "determinations of eligibility" for Section 106. Reviews applications and statewide survey activities to evaluate properties potentially eligible for the National Register of Historic Places using National Register criteria and associated research. Oversees Nebraska Certified Local Government (CLG) program. Advises, consults and serves as a liaison to local government historic preservation programs. Oversees contract staff, interns and volunteers performing professional services. Answers questions from the public and other officials about division's programs. Provides expertise in American architectural history. Implements, maintains, and manages procedural systems for the programs assigned. Conducts public outreach activities, including meetings, workshops and other public forums. Researches and writes articles for newsletters and other publications. Performs duties under agency's historic preservation strategic and statewide planning goals. Occasional to frequent traveling with overnight stays. QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS: REQUIREMENTS: Qualification guidelines are established by federal code (36CFR61, Appendix A, "Professional Qualification Standards.") Masters degree in history, architectural history or closely related field and two years full time experience in researching, writing or teaching. Substantial contributions through research, writing, teaching and publication related to the body of scholarly knowledge may substitute for the educational requirement, as may be determined applicable based on Secretary of Interior professional qualifications standards. PREFERRED: Basic computer skills: Word, Excel; knowledge of GIS. OTHER: Must be able to pass background checks and have the ability to operate Society vehicles or provide independent transportation. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of programs administered by State Historic Preservation Office, including policies, principles, practices, guidelines and procedures under federal regulations governing the National Historic Preservation Act. Knowledge of architectural history. Ability to research, write-up findings effectively. Skill in conducting historical research. |
