AKRF, Inc., a prominent NYC environmental and planning firm, is looking for an Architectural Historian and Planner. The firm primarily develops environmental impact analyses for private and public development projects, including Section 106 reviews and 4F analyses. An important part of the work is the analysis of potential impacts on historic resources, which includes surveys and identification of historic resources, visual resources, and urban design. AKRF also prepares National Register nominations, historic building surveys, and Historic American Building Surveys (HABS) and historic structures reports.

Candidates must have a MS/MA in Historic Preservation. Environmental review or urban planning experience or education and some management experience is preferred. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Familiarity with the New York City metropolitan area and its resources is a definite plus. Responsibilities include: field surveys, research, and historic and visual resources analyses. Assignments would also include analyses in support of New York State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) and New York City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR) documentation such as Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessment Forms (EAF), and Environmental Assessment Statements (EAS) for a variety of development projects. Tasks include collecting and analyzing research and field data, and using quantitative and qualitative techniques to study development impacts on land use, zoning and public policy; community facilities; open space; and neighborhood character.
