What: Preservation Action Advocacy Day Intern will be responsible for helping to coordinate our extensive nation-wide grassroots network in preparation for our annual advocacy meeting in Washington DC, on March 7-8, 2012. In the process, the intern will gain hands-on experience in federal grassroots advocacy. When: January 9th 2012 – March 30th 2012. There is a possibility of extending the internship through the spring semester to accommodate students wishing to tailor the program for academic credit. Requirements: Must be available to attend Historic Preservation Advocacy Day, March 7-8, 2012 at the Fairfax Hotel on Embassy Row, Washington DC. The intern will work 25-30 hours a week from the office of Preservation Action in the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. Who: Preference will be given to students seeking advanced degrees in historic preservation, public policy, or related field. Grassroots advocacy experience is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate should be organized, willing to take on a variety of tasks, able to work independently, and have an enthusiasm for historic preservation policy. Communications, web and design skills a plus. About Historic Preservation Advocacy Day: Each year, Preservation Action works closely with the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers, the National Association of Preservation Commissions and the National Trust for Historic Preservation to lead a two-day program in Washington DC consisting of annual meetings, legislative briefings, advocacy training, and coordinated visits to the "Hill." In addition to an opportunity to meet fellow preservationists from all over the nation, you will be able to visit Capitol Hill to meet with your own Members of Congress with fellow historic preservation professionals from your home state. |
