Lowell's Boat Shop, founded in 1793, is a National Historic Landmark and the oldest continuously operating wooden boat building shop in America. The boat shop is open daily; visitors are invited to observe building of traditional handcrafted wooden dories and tour exhibits of antique boats, tools, photographs, and artifacts. Involved in day to day operations of this small shop and working museum, the intern welcomes all visitors, leads tours, and assists staff in all interactions with the public.
Details:
Part time: 10-20 hours/week
Duties:
Assist in day-to-day operations of a small working boat shop and museum
Greet visitors and conduct tours
Design and implement school programs
Maintain exhibits of historic tools, photographs, and boats
Monitor waterfront safety
Open and close museum and run cash register for retail sales
Assist with event planning
Share administrative/office duties
Some light housekeeping duties
Qualifications:
High school graduate
Enrollment in degree program in History, Museum Studies, Historic Preservation or related field a plus
Experience working with public and/or school age children
Understanding of waterfront safety
Ability to work independently
