Specific duties:

  • Serve as agent to the architectural review board.
  • Implement and maintain a preservation plan.
  • Manage historic survey & nomination activities.
  • Manage grants used to carry out preservation activities.
  • Provide training to property owners on the use of historic preservation tax credits.
  • Coordinate seminars to targeted groups to communicate the importance of preservation.
  • Carry out activities and complete required reports to maintain Roanoke’s Certified Local Government status.
  • Support other planning staff in long-range planning efforts as needed.
  • Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in planning, historic preservation, architectural history, or related field, with Master’s preferred.
  • 3-5 years related experience in an urban community
  • Thorough knowledge of preservation, urban design, and development codes.
