DESCRIPTION: The Director of Denton County Museums performs administrative and professional duties in directing the Denton County Museums. Develops museums’ promotional programs and cultivates a positive public image of the museums and the county within the state. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Directs and oversees museums staff that directly works with various programs regarding developing educational programs, creating museum exhibits, and monitoring care of collections and assets.Advises Denton County Historical Commission Museums Committee of long-range planning of Denton County Museums and serves as liaison between Denton County and the Museums Committee to ensure compliance with County policies and procedures. Determines needs for grants, writes grants (including HOT Funds) and administers grants and approves expenditures from HOT Funds. Prepares recommended operating budgets including grant budgets and monitors office compliance with County budget and purchasing policies and procedures.Represents Denton County Museums as member of numerous Community and State boards. Oversees and approves creation of publicity and promotional materials for Denton County Museums by Program Coordinator and Manager of the Museums at the Park.Hires and supervises all employees, administers routine personnel matters. Assures compliance of museum policies and procedures, as approved by the Denton County Historical Commission Museums Committee, by all members of the staff and volunteers. Represents the museums and cultivates relationships with donors, potential donors and community organizations for both artifact donations and monetary donations for the museums. Oversees and organizes capital improvement fund raising and/or major fund raising events for the operations and programs of the Denton County Museums. Performs other related duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors or Master’s degree in history, archival studies, museum studies, or a related field. Minimum five years of experience in a related field required; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. |
