The Landmarks Preservation Commission is the New York City agency that is responsible for designating and regulating the city's landmarks and historic districts. These properties have special historic, architectural, cultural, and/or aesthetic significance as part of the heritage of the city, state or nation. The agency consists of eleven Commissioners and a full-time staff. The Landmarks Preservation Commission was established in 1965 when Mayor Robert Wagner signed the local law creating the Commission and giving it its power. |

The New York Landmarks Preservation Foundation, in conjunction with the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, is pleased to announce a fellowship position for Summer, 2012. This paid fellowship is an eight-week position at the Landmarks Preservation Commission, open to graduate degree candidates in historic preservation, architecture, architectural history or a related field.
The Fellow will have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of the Commissions work, including: regulation, enforcement, designation, and community outreach. Specific responsibilities will depend upon the Commissions workload, but will focus on the regulatory work of the Commission with a particular concentration on the permit application process.
The fellowship pays $4,000, commences in June, and requires a commitment of 35 hours per week. |
