Dovetail Cultural Resource Group (Dovetail) is currently accepting applications for a full time Architectural Historian in our Fredericksburg, Virginia office.  Architectural Historians are responsible for day-to-day management of small to medium scale projects and monitoring budget status.  They also may be responsible for management of preservation staff. Work will include reconnaissance and intensive architectural surveys, archival and historical research, preparation of historic contexts, National Register of Historic Places nominations, landscape analysis, and report production. Applicant must be proficient in identifying and analyzing historic properties, architectural photography and documentation, and completing primary source research including chain of titles, and they should have a general understanding of federal- and state-level preservation law. Previous experience with mid-Atlantic State Historic Preservation Office procedures, such as the Virginia Department of Historic Preservations DSS System, is a plus.

Applicant must have a minimum of a Bachelors degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, History, or a related field and at least one year of hands-on experience dealing with recordation of cultural resources in a professional setting and be physically able to conduct fieldwork in and around historic buildings, structures and landscapes.
