This is an RFP for an architectural exhibition curator to assist in the development of an exhibition on Michigan Modern architecture and design. The MISHPO is partnering with Cranbrook Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills, MI to develop an exhibition that highlights Michigan's contribution to Modernism.  The contract will run from June 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013.  The exhibition will open at Cranbrook in early June 2013 and close in Nov 2013. It will move to West Michigan in 2014. The exhibition space is approximately 6,000 sq ft. The consultant will develop the design concept for the exhibition that will translate the MI Modern story based on the people, places, products andindustries associated with Modernism in Michigan 1940-1970.  The consultant will assist in the implementation of the concept through preparation of text and identification of artifacts. They will also develop educational materials for public school children as well as the concept for a travelinlg version of the exhibit.  Qualifications include a masters degree in history, architecture, architectural history or museum studies; experience in developing a major exhibition of 2,500 sq ft or more; and knowlege of architectural history, preferably Modern architecture 1940-1970. Prospective consultants must be able to travel to and spend significant time at Cranbrook throughout the period of the exhibition development.
