As one of two Deputy State Archaeologists, the candidate directs staff and develops integrated plans and procedures for the survey, interpretation, conservation, and curation of state-owned and managed terrestrial resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Completion of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science, Historical Preservation or a closely related field

AND

• Two years of management experience in a directly related area.

OR

• Two years of management experience at the lower level (NRM030) or at an equivalent position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Completion of an M.A. in Anthropology with a specialization in Archaeology.
• Experience with the National Historic Preservation Act and/or the National Environmental Protection Act.
• At least one publication in a peer-reviewed regional or national journal during the last 5 years.
• Working knowledge of the prehistory/history of the Southeastern US and the related material culture.
• Working knowledge or experience in curation and/or public interpretation.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to travel.
